Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh

Sangam meaning union. Also known as Triveni Sangam, Triveni Ghat witnesses the unification of the three most sacred rivers in Hindu mythology, the Ganges, the Yamuna, and the Saraswati.

The Triveni Ghat is situated on the banks of river Ganga, where three rivers namely  Kapil, Saraswati and Hiran unite with the Arabian Sea.

Triveni Ghat which stands witness to the convergence of three most holy Rivers the Ganga, the Yamuna and the Saraswati are located on the basins of River Ganga.

A popular belief is that anyone who takes a dip in Triveni Ghat will have a release and attain salvation – a relief from all sins carried out; the water here has the power to purify them.

Devotees make many offerings at Triveni Ghat, the offering of milk made to the river and giving food to the fish on the Ghat at pre-dawn hours are the most popular.The Maha Aarti

The worship of River Ganga holds a significant place in the puranas. Also known as Maha Aarti, begins around 6 pm, charges the atmosphere spiritually leaving you mesmerized. An impressive view of lamps floated in the river as part of aarti ceremony is pleasing to eyes after the sunset.

Triveni Ghat holds a significant place in the Hindu scriptures and the Puranas, and a special place in the two epics of Hindu religion – Ramayana and Mahabharata. The mythology has that Lord Krishna had taken shelter in this holy spot after being wounded by an arrow of the hunter named Jara.

Boat Ride at Triveni Ghat

The Ghat surrounded by the mountain ranges, forest and wild life, gives you a chance to enjoy the nature to its fullest. The boat services are offered at 50 INR for a trip of 30 minutes. Groups can avail for discounts. The capacity of a boat is 8 persons.

How to Reach Triveni Ghat

Nearest Railway Station: Rishikesh Railway Station which is 3 kms away from the Ghat. From the station, head in the south direction. Turn on the right and then left, towards Haridwar road. Turn right at the petrol pump where you pass by the Prabhusewa Tours & Travels on the right. Then turn left towards the Akhand Ashram Sanskrit mahavidyalaya. Turn left onto the Asthapath and you will find the Ghat on the right.

The best way to reach is to share an auto from the station having minimal cost of around 6-7 INR.

Nearest Airport: Jolly Grant Airport, 22 kms away. From the Airport, head in the south towards the Dehradun Rishikesh road, and then take the first left onto Dehradun Rishikesh road, where you pass by Amrapali Aadya Trading & Investment Pvt. Ltd. on the right. Continue till you pass by the Puri Hospital. Turn right at the VNA furniture onto the Haridwar road, till you pass the Petrol Pump. Then turn left towards the Akhand Ashram Sanskrit mahavidyalaya. Turn left onto the Asthapath and you will find the Ghat on the right.

You can easily reach the Ghat from the nearby landmarks – only 6 km distant from the Ram Jhula, 9 Km away from the Lakshman Jhula, at a distance of 30 km from Haridwar, approximately 240 km away from Delhi, 35 km distant from Dehradun, 20 km distance from the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, 70 km distant from the hill station of Mussoorie.

Triveni Ghat can easily be reached by bus, taxi or even your own private vehicles. One can also hire the services of tuk Tuk or auto rikshaws.

Best Time to Visit

The place can be visited any time throughout the year but you will not be able to enjoy boat riding and rafting during the monsoon, when the boats are taken off due to high water level of the river Ganga. There is a minimal fee if you want to participate in the Maha Aarti.
